When you are in the recruiting industry you send out lots of mass mailings be it for referrals, to advertise job opportunities, or to network. It is important that your emails to do end up in your contacts junk or spam folders. By sending out so many emails at one time you heighten the possibly of your email going to junk. Here are some tips to avert the junk folder:

  • Do not use spam phrases like CLICK HERE, Make money here, urgent, once in a life time opportunity, 
  • Do not go crazy with exclamation points!!!!
  • DO NOT USE ALL CAPS
  • Do not color your fonts
  • The smaller the group of emails that are sent out the less likely you are to be flagged as spam
  • Send emails to people who want to receive them so that they do not mark you as spam, in turn making your emails appear even more as spam. Use subscribe lists and scrub data
  • Some spam filters will block an email if the name of the person is not in the To: line. Be careful with lots of bcc’s or cc’s

What to expect:

  • Expect on average that 10% to 20% of your emails will just get lost in cyberspace
  • 20% - 30% of your recipients will actually open the email – this is a good percentage
  • Yahoo has the highest spam security of any service
