This is a bad time if you are someone who’s Monday’s are without question the worst day of the week, and every Sunday night you feel sick. If you are someone who hates their current job or perhaps the company you work for, then this economy only makes it worse. What do you do when the job market is slow and leaving is not an option? Let’s face it, just a few years ago, if you weren’t excited about your job, you went out and got a new one. For some it was as often as changing their underwear. Today in this economy it’s not as easy to change jobs. So what are you going to do? What changes can you make?
You can’t leave your job and going without one is not an option. You need to suck it up and make it work. How do you do that? Well the answer is just a decision away! Listen, there are millions of people out there wishing they had your job, so let’s move on. I would have to say that the majority of people aren’t crazy about their job. Me, I hated pretty much every job I had. What I had to do was to convince myself that I was going to be the absolute best employee I could be. No matter what, I would be the best. I didn’t think about finding a new job or why I’m smarter than my boss. So I got excited about my job and all of a sudden the hours flew like minutes.

What helped me to do this was books. I would highly recommend getting into a reading program. I don’t mean romance novels but inspirational books and self help books: anything that teaches you how to overcome and how to improve yourself. Most of these books are written by people that had tremendous obstacles to overcome, and they succeeded. I used to go in my car during lunch just to read because I didn’t want anyone to see what I was reading. You know how that goes in corporate America. Your co-workers are like crabs in a basket: always trying to pull the other one down that is trying to get out. No one wants you to succeed because that shines a light on them.

Working hard to be the best is going to be a blessing for you. One way is when the market does pick up and a new opportunity presents itself to you, you will be missed. Secondly, you are going to have some great references for the future. It’s also a good idea to not move around a lot in your career. The largest obstacle to over come on a resume is too much movement. Not every job is going to be perfect, so make the most out of it and grow as a person.
