Recruiting Innovation: And the Oscar goes to......

Ok - so perhaps it is not all that innovative, but as an aspiring filmmaker (as if you have extra time between running a desk and family) and New York Film Academy grad I could not resist.

The popular online marketing place Etsy is taking a unique approach to recruiting top talent. Check out the video below to see what I mean;

Darkness has fallen on New York City’s booming tech scene, and software developers are disappearing by the dozen. Join Harvey Handmaker (Dan McKinley) and Goldie Goldberg (Elizabeth Kirkland) as they aid Gaius Pinto (John Allspaw) and the Legion of Visionaries in unlocking the secrets of Mirage Global Inc.; rescue new recruit Debbie Webster (Danielle Aprea) from certain doom; and defeat the evil Max Malware (Zane Lackey) once and for all.

I have to admit I’m a sucker for a good trailer too. So with the summer movie season in full swing I thought it was rather cool to see an employer use this format to stand out from the competitive landscape.

What are your thoughts? Would you check out this flick? More importantly do you think this would attract the interest from candidates?

I'd watch it because it's related to my career, but I'm not sure recruiting truly needs to evolve into fancy media etc. The world has plenty of reality shows and outside of the industry I am not sure the pull is there. I'm certainly not a analyst in that area but not sure it's worth an investment.
