Lots of people are now making the decision to relocate elsewhere, with Dubai being a particularly popular destination. The amount of jobs in Dubai, coupled with the beautiful weather make it a very tempting place to choose. It can be difficult to just leave and start all over again in a foreign country but there are things you can do to make the move a little bit easier.

Learn the language

You don't necessarily have to be fluent by the time you arrive but it can be incredibly useful to start to get to grips with a few key phrases. You are choosing to move abroad and learning the local language is a part of that. It will help you to feel more settled in your first few weeks if you are able to understand a few snippets of conversation. Similarly, you should try and learn to read Arabic; it'll make it hugely easier to understand the road signs as not all of them are in English.

Land your dream job

If you are relocating, chances are you already have a job lined up in Dubai. However, if you don't make sure you get yourself out there to give the right impression. If you are planning to move for a job, you would be well-placed to try and attend an interview there beforehand. While it's probably quite possible to conduct an interview via video link, you will impress the interviewer and show you are committed to the relocation if you fly over for a face-to-face meeting.

When you are job hunting, make sure you are up to date on the employment laws and the processes in place in Dubai. Don't expect it to be the same as the UK because each country has a different set of laws. When you are relocating, it can be helpful to find out if your new company will cover the costs of moving and also what your

Find your way round beforehand

If you are deciding to move, you need to ensure you know where you're going and begin to get an understanding of where everything is. This will naturally come with time, but if you go to Dubai before starting your new job and find the local supermarket, hospital and other useful amenities, you will lower your chances of getting lost when you finally move there. You might want to arrange a car for when you arrive, just to make getting around a little bit easier. Taxis will also be helpful for the first couple of days as well, at least until you start to get your bearings.

Make friends

You will probably only know your work colleagues when you first arrive so try to absorb yourself in the work culture of your new position. Invite your fellow workers out for dinner after your shift to try and get to know them better and make a real effort to mingle with everyone at work. They are the people that you will probably spend the majority of your time with so it will help you to settle in better if you socialise with them as well.
