For the first time this year, we are seeing a decrease in the volume of online job ads posted for Computer and IT related jobs when compared to the same period last year.  Employers and staffing agencies posted just over 27,000 new online job ads during the last 60 days, representing a decrease of approximately 4% versus the same 60 day period in 2010.

Out of the top ten occupations that employers were looking to fill, only three saw year-over-year growth: Computer Systems Analysts, Computer Systems Engineers / Architects, and Computer Programmers.

Job Ad Volume % Change vs. Prior Year
Computer Software Engineers (Applications) 6,891 -4.50%
Web Developers 4,209 -8.50%
Computer Systems Analysts 3,431 7.80%
Network & Computer Systems Administrators 2,332 -0.80%
Software Quality Assurance Engineers & Testers 1,811 -3.40%
Computer Software Engineers (Systems Software) 1,503 -11.60%

Information Technology Project Managers 1,453 -8.80%
Computer Programmers 1,411 9.40%
Computer Support Specialists 1,266 -1.20%

We've recently added average posting period to WANTED Analytics and are now able to see for any given occupation approximately how long it will take employers to fill their job openings.  For these positions, in the Silicon Valley area, employers can expect it to take anywhere from 4 to 7 weeks to fill these in demand positions.

Web Developers 5 weeks
Computer Systems Analysts 5 weeks
Network & Computer Systems Administrators 5.5 weeks
Software Quality Assurance Engineers & Testers 5 weeks
Computer Software Engineers (Systems Software) 7 weeks
