About a minute into the show my line went dead and then it took me another minute to get back on. So you'll hear some dead air near the start of the show.
I thought it was a solid show Animal. Jennifer seemed a bit reserved having heard her speak in the past, but always enjoy hearing the insights she shares. I also enjoyed the term you coined social media anthropologist (think that was it). It really makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Now BaconLube on the other hand? I will reserve that comment for another time.
She's been on a number of times and she's always low key. That's why the Recruiting Animal Show is good for her. It adds a bit of zing. I think she was angry yesterday - maybe because of the pictures (which, again, I thought were great).
The part about referral recruiting was a revelation to me because I misunderstood it the first time she told us about it.
perhaps it was the pictures.....
You are right about the referral recruiting. That was indeed interesting and sort of how I first started my desk. I was assigned specific residency programs and once you made a connection it was always referrals to get the rest. How did you interpret it the first go around?
I liked the pictures. I thought they made her seem fun and approachable. Good job Animal.
Thanks dear. Much appreciated. Loved your comment on the song during the show
Loved the song :) even though it was stuck in my head the rest of the day... I thought the show was good too.
@Tim - I thought she had told us that she never made cold calls and that for every call she made she searched out some connection first who could introduce her. Since she seemed to work only with senior executives it was somewhat plausible but in fact she only used the referral technique for business development and 80% of her business came in via referral on its own. So she didn't have to use it very often.
Does it work? Saying a mutual friend thought a call would be worthwhile is meant to make it seem as if the friend suggested that she make the call or, at least, enthusiastically endorsed the idea.
I wonder however if it will be all too clear that you are really just calling the mutual acquaintance to ask if you can use his name. I mean, sometimes you might wonder if your qualifications make you a suitable recruiter for a specific job but I think it might be transparent in many cases that you are not asking that seriously.
I'm not saying that CincyRecruiter wasnt mad at me about the pictures but for the record I just saw on Facebook that both of her parents are sick and that might have been on her mind
