For those of you looking for a little good news for a change, USA Today is reporting a huge hiring surge the technology sector.

According to the article, the United States stands to gain 148,000 tech jobs by the end of the year, and job listings for this sector rose 30 percent in February and March as compared to the same period last year. In California alone, the additional of 100,000 tech jobs in February helped the state bump their unemployment rate down to 12.2 percent from 12.4 percent.

Competition for tech talent is said to be so competitive that some employers are offering incentives such as iPads, cool cubicles, shuttle services, and more, according to the article.

Some of the most popular tech positions include:

  • Engineering
  • Social Media management
  • Web site and product design
  • Data analysis

We can only guess that this will also be a huge boon for recruiters who work contract job orders in information technology.  This area is typically one of our biggest for contracting and last year was the third largest industry for contract placements. Given this latest report, it looks like recruiters working these types of job orders can expect continued success!
