How about some “optimistic” news for a Friday? I think things are starting to turn around?

How do I know you might be asking? Here are some things I have noticed in the past week or two alone.

My phone is ringing – a lot more than it has been!
I just read an article that said hotel occupancies are up in Q4 to 07/08 levels. They say that ADR is way down, but occupancy is up. Still pretty good news.
There are more mergers and acquisitions in the Oil & Gas sector as well as new projects being announced and old projects being restarted. Think what you will about the Oil Sands – BUT, right now the country goes as oil & gas goes. No longer is Ontario driving the boat, they are in a dingy being pulled behind.
Other industries are hiring, and a lot.
I have heard of 3 promotions in our industry this week of GM’s (in their respective fields) being promoted to regional’s. A sure sign that companies are making moves as in the past year a lot of regional’s were asked to run individual stores.

I have also been talking to a lot of very qualified candidates out there who are frustrated right now and getting down on them selves. To them I say – stay positive, you are not alone. There are many people out there that are still looking strictly due to circumstance. It’s not you – it’s the economy. If you can hang in there a little longer something will come up. Things are changing for the better and you will find the opportunity you are looking for.
