VMS business should not be ignored nor blindly embraced. Find the “good” VMS and work it with a passion.

I deal with VMS all day every day.  I have only been in the industry for 2 years and to be honest, most of my colleagues have been in it for 10+, so they already had their accounts they worked, VMS gave me a way in.  The cool thing was that none of them wanted to bother with VMS, so I got all of them...  It's a learning process, just to learn each one, but once you do, it's pretty straight forward.  There are good VMS and there are bad ones.  There are ones that are really a sham that simply is there to block business from their biggest competitors while others exist to help the hospital, (I work in Medical).  That being said, my fav accounts are definetly the direct, but there are some VMS that aren't bad.

Andrew, what you say is very telling. Direct is the gold standard for recruiters, still to this day. Why, because it's direct. You are correct, not all VMS is bad. Recruiters just have to pick and choose very carefully.
