This is less of a Blog and more of a question or request for advice.

I'm 5 years in the business, recently promoted to Director (manage several recruiters), my production has gone up every year and 2010 was my personal best at over 560K (#1 in company) in direct hire contingent fees. I'm staring at my board with 0's across it and I cannot find the motivation/fire to do it again.

 

I have read through several blogs on the site and there seems to be little conversation on the topic that I know we all have/will face in our careers.

 

With so many great recruiting minds on this site, does anyone have any advice that might help me?

I think this reply is a pretty good example of "combative".

"...you can't handle anything but hugs and kisses..."  Another solid example.

 

Combative.  Argumentative.  2 words that are pretty accurate here.


Funny thing about guys that come on here more or less just to promote their products.  They end up in battle hoping to steer the discussions toward the need for his/her product.  Most end up seeing it for what it is.

This has gotten way off track. Anyone can reread the posts and make their own assumptions about who has the combative tone. While I agree some are here to promote and drive traffic I do not believe that was Jerry's intention and I know it was not mine; (however we do have a revolutionary video interviewing process) check it out @.....) opps.

 

I'm here to learn from my peers and I believe that most are here to do the same.

Jerry having declared a combative thread closed i simply have an observation.  Folks are having an upbeat exchange between colleagues in the village square.  Just one of those thingys over coffee where someone says, "Man i have had a great year but i'm really down today".  It rings a bell with some of the others so they share some experiences and encouragement.

 

All of a sudden a funky looking monkey comes swinging into a tree in the village square and starts flinging poo at everybody.  Who knows why except monkeys just fling poo because that's what they do because they are monkeys and poo flinging seems to be fun for them or makes them the biggest monkey or something.  It's nasty and irritating, causes the fun conversation that is going on to be disrupted by one big nasty poo flinging monkey.  So folks start yelling at the monkey to stop it, go away, quit with the poo flinging..that's disgusting.  Since monkeys fling poo for fun..i guess...the monkey just starts flinging more poo and screaming - as monkeys do because they are monkeys and can produce lots of poo, while making loud irritating noises.

 

The moral to the story.  One poo flinging monkey can ruin an otherwise fun conversation.  Poo flinging monkeys should be avoided unless one likes monkey poo.  Poo flinging monkeys can not be reasoned with because they are what they are, what makes them happy is to fling poo for attention just because that is all they know how to do, poo and fling it.

Poo flinging monkeys should be in the zoo where anyone who does not like poo flying around can avoid their cage or the folks have the option to move the conversation someplace else.  If the monkey keeps coming around screaming and flinging poo just call animal control.  Animal control is probably already aware that the monkey is on the loose and eventually the monkey will be given the opportunity to fling poo someplace else.

 

Nobody but the monkey likes monkey poo.

Good one, Sandra.  To you, Jason ... what a dramatic debut on RecruitingBlogs, huh?  Don't take it too personally; Robert is just suffering from a bit of "peanut" envy :) if you catch my drift.  Welcome, and please, don't stop blogging after this nasty experience.

LOL, great Ilona.  Why didn't i think of "peanut envy".  As i recall from the last time i watched monkeys they are absorbed with playing with their "peanuts".  Maybe that's where all that poo comes from.

Robert, I think most recruiters are anything but thin-skinned.  What you engaged in is not intelligent adult conversation.  It was hostile, and you attacked a number of different people for no good reason with rather childish arguments.  Intelligent adult conversation consists of formulating your argument so that the message gets across, without offending.

Dude - you've attacked people in nearly every reply you've made the past few days.  Just look at the last several.  Luckily we're all at least at a 10th grade level of English comprehension.

 

It started yesterday when you jumped into the Bountyjobs thread announcing that anyone who does splits is more or less an idiot.  Funny how when I just went to review those comments (I've got all kinds of free time...) that you've deleted your entire "contribution" to the thread.  The general gist of your input gave me the idea that all anyone had to do was stroll on over to one of your many esteemed internet properties, drop the job order on there - and keep tons of cash rolling in.


There was a kid who came over here a month or two ago.  He announced something to the effect of us old schoolers being run out of town by social media.  Hilarity ensued.  He hasn't been back.....
