Top 10 Interview mistakes to avoid
As recruiters we spend all day speaking to candidates and preparing them for their upcoming interviews, but despite this many seem to fall foul of even the most basic of mistakes when interviewing themselves to develop their career in recruitment.
As a little reminder I have listed below the top 10 mistakes made by recruiters when interviewing for a new recruitment job
Know your billings – You are in sales and you should know exactly what you billed and how much you earned.
Know your CV – Make sure the dates and information you give matches your CV
Make an effort – First impressions count and if you don’t make an effort to look good it will be noted straight away
Be on time – Make sure you leave enough time to get there and get there early. Check the trains before you leave and know where you are going when you get to the station.
Research the company – Most recruitment Directors will want to know what you understand about their business, don’t just say ‘I’ve had a look at the website’.
Avoid confrontation – Even if the interviewer is questioning everything you say try to remain calm and answer constructively.
Be concise with your answers – Make sure you think about the question that has been asked and give a succinct answer, try not to waffle or go off on tangents.
Don’t be overly negative – try not to blame everything on your current company and continually talk about how bad your manager is. Talk about some of the positives you will take from the business.
Be careful with your aspirations – believe it or not saying ‘I want to run my own recruitment business one day’ although entrepreneurial, is not want a potential new employer wants to hear, better keep that one to yourself.
Don’t blame the Rec2Rec ! – If it’s going bad and you clearly haven’t prepared or taken time to understand the business, don’t blame everything on the rec2rec agent not giving you the right info !
They may seem quite comical in places but anyone who works in Rec2Rec like me will tell you that these are all too real !! Take some time to prepare for your interview and think about the advice you give your candidates..
