Update to Twittering taking job boards to a whole other level (October 4th, 2010)

I recently received a comment on my original posting “Twittering taking job boards to a whole other level”, from Jeff Waldman. In his comment he provided me a link to his blog that lined up with mine. So I decided to take a minute and read what he had to say, wow it was good! Jeff’s blog is called “What Social Recruiting IS & IS NOT...” and it works perfectly in tandem with what I was thinking when I wrote my blog. What Jeff’s blog does, is get in down deep to the core of where the real limitations of social networking really exist, and how easy it is to follow the typical party line and blame the system while excusing the user.

Yes, I am sorry if this hurts some people’s feelings but the end user of systems does have a major role to play here. Jeff points out in his blog (seriously take a minute and read it - What Social Recruiting IS & IS NOT...) what’s the point of implementing a system if you aren't going to use it to its full potential? If you take a job posting and tweet it or Facebook it then sit back awaiting the incoming resumes...well then you’ve missed the full potential of what these media circles are offering your organization. Perhaps it’s because we are use to building conversations over the phone but haven’t quite transferred those skills to social media? Posting your opportunities through such sources is just the beginning. What these sources offer that standard job boards don’t is the ability to communicate immediately, directly and continuously with a massive population (of course you have to be targeting the demographics that are social media lovers) open and ready to tweet, text and FB away.

Heck, why not hold a “Screening Tweet Interview” en masse? Or a “FB Round Robin Interview Session”? Seriously, if you take a moment to step out of the box the potential is there to get more out of social media. Yes, you do need to take into consideration the demographic of the population you are targeting, I get it and so does Jeff. What we are talking about is targeting that social media population, aka social media junkies, you might even find that you meet that prime candidate who didn’t even know they were looking until they saw your tweet ;)

There, I had my rant for today and owe Jeff a huge thanks for connecting with me and taking my thoughts on social media potential to a whole other level! J
