US Online Job Market grows 5.8% in February 2012

Business as usual. This was the development of the online labor demand in February. The grow rate of 5.8% is consistent with average years at this time of the season. The number of online job postings was 1.3% below the level of February 2011. This suggests a grinding job market which slowly rebounds from the recession. Last year, US payroll grew by 1.8 million jobs despite natural disasters, rising energy prices and home made political problems. If last year’s labor demand is an indicator, US payroll could grow at the same rate this year.

Weekly growth of labor demand was spread fairly even across the month. The build up of demand appears to be like last year around this time.

Methodology: SkillPROOF surveys the inventories of job openings at direct employers. Job openings are counted and verified every 24 hours. All data sources have been verified for timely removal of filled or closed positions. No data from job boards or search firms is included.

For this report SkillPROOF estimates the counts of job openings. Estimates are calculated directly from SkillPROOF’s actual daily counts of job openings. As part of its calculations, SkillPROOF uses data and findings from reports of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) (http://www.bls.gov).

Thanks for posting. Looks like there was a major drop off in Fall 2011 (which generally should be a busy season). If we don't have any Macro issues out there, we should see a better year 2012.
