Want to be a smart recruiter? Do the OPPOSITE of this!

  • Fling resumes at job orders without talking to candidates. Clients LOVE receiving unqualified resumes and Candidates Love having their resume sent to companies without your permission.
  • Submit candidate resumes to clients without qualifying them.
  • Do NOT under ANY circumstances waste your time keeping the submitted candidate apprised of the status of the job order!
  • And for heaven's sake, don't return phone calls or emails to those candidates you can't do anything with today but might have something for in the near or far future.
  • Don't even think about being proactive with a really good candidate's resume. If a client doesn't tell you about an opening, it means they don't have an opening now or in the pipeline!
  • You don't need to prepare your candidates prior to a phone screen with a client. It's just a phone screen, right?
  • It really doesn't matter what the "culture" of the team or company is like, if the candidate has the needed skills and experience, the soft skills don't matter.

All Joking aside (thought I'd be crazy for a few minutes for fun...hope you enjoyed it!)

I am a Smart Recruiter because I keep in touch with my candidates to keep them apprised of the status of the position, interviews, their competition and prepare them for the client interviews prior to a phone interview or in person interview. So many of my candidates and clients are truly appreciative when an effortis made, no matter how small to keep in touch.

Their main complaint with "recruiters" whether agency or corporate - is that they are not aware of the outcome of their interview or resume submittal from another recruiter. How crazy is that? What kind of relationship is being built for future opportunities?

I truly believe that communication is the key ingredient to a client/candidate/recruiter relationship. Without that, all else is just flinging resumes.

Hmm, I don't know of anyone immediately but may run across someone in my network... thanks for asking and I will certainly see who may be looking.
