You keep tabs on all the news stories just to let your readers stay acquainted with all that is happening in this world, but when your blog depends on a news story that is a hot topic at the moment and everybody is writing on it, then my opinion for writers would be to wait for a week. This may sound crazy, maybe your writers send you emails suggesting this story as your next topic, but remember that they read your posts because they like your judgment and thus they would like your perception of the story, rather than mere details they already know.

It may not be helpful every time. Suppose, you are providing blog post writing services to brand, then it is extremely important to cover the news story about your brand before anybody else, People are so curious and can easily get the leaked information, so you need to make sure you are going to enlighten your readers about the new collection or product promotion before anybody else.
