Hiring by The Top Military Friendly Employers

Earlier this year GI Jobs Magazine released their list of the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers of 2015. This list helps connect employers that are seeking certain skill sets with veterans that possess compatible attributes. The Military Friendly Employers list ranks businesses on their ability to recruit and retain veterans as well as the survey respondent's number of veteran employees, and their offered insurance and medical benefits. In honor of Veterans Day, we examined hiring demand at the top 10 companies on this list.

Of the top military companies, Verizon has the greatest demand, with about 7,100 job ads posted online in October. ManTech had the second highest number of job openings, about 2,750. The companies on this list have representation in the finance and insurance, energy, transportation, information, and professional, scientific, and technical services industries.

When looking closely at the most advertised jobs by these companies, there is a clear link between the industry and the talent they required. In October, Salespersons, Supervisors, and Customer Service Representatives were the most commonly advertised occupations by these companies. These ads were mostly listed by Verizon, the company with the greatest number of job openings. Security Guard ads were often listed by AlliedBarton Security; Truck Drivers were frequently advertised by J.B. Hunt and Baker Hughes; Insurance Sales Agents were needed at Combined Insurance; ManTech required Information Security Analysts; Network and Computer Systems Administrators, and Software Developers (Applications.)

When looking for military veteran candidates, keep in mind that if you use the term veterans, you may also find professionals using this term to describe their level of experience in their field. Be sure to also search terms such as military, armed services, Army, Navy, Marines, etc. These terms will provide profiles where candidates specifically mention their area of enlistment and expertise.

What are you currently doing to find military veteran candidates?
