Which is better- cable internet or 4G LTE? This debate has been going on since forever. Cable internet comes with a lot of benefits-speed, reliability, availability and price being some of them. Another way to have access to the internet is through LTE. LTE stands for Long-term Evolution and refers to the wireless technologies. Day by day it is gaining more prominence than the other ways of accessing the internet.

As both have different features, both have a few pros and cons. Let us have a look at each to know which one is better for use.

No wires and cables

Whether you are going for cable internet or fiber-optic internet, there is much hassle when it comes to installation and all, due to the cables and thin fiber hair. The same problem arises when it comes to DSL. But with LTE, one does not have to be connected through some sort of wire in order to have access to the internet. LTE users can connect to the internet from anywhere in your home or even outside through their LTE phone, tablet or USB.

Speed

If you are thinking that being wireless, it makes LTE, less efficient than cable network, then you are most certainly wrong. Actually, LTE speeds can be very high and keeps fluctuating from 30 Mbits per second to 50 Mbits per second. With promises of launching LTE Advanced, it is expected that the speeds will be even higher.

'The last mile' problem

The cable internet has often been termed as 'the last mile' internet since it has always been very efficient at keeping the internet signal strength strong even over slightly long distances. However, if this distance is to be more than a hundred and sixty miles then there were always chances of degradation of transmission. Which is why cable internet is best for neither long nor short distances. Another good feature of the LTE is that it can help with this problem. LTE can transmit over much longer distances but there is a drawback to it as well- to make this facility available in rural areas, one has to build cellular towers. Which means that LTE works extraordinarily well in urban areas where cellular towers are common, but less developed areas are still far from having access to LTE internet as yet.
