6 Ways to Motivate New Employees Besides Money

We can all relate with the excitement that comes with a new job offer. The air is ripe with potential as soon as you successfully receive a job offer that can help you go up the career ladder. In most cases, the brewing excitement that accompanies the first few days of job acceptance fades away soon. Soon after onboarding, new joiners are seen struggling under the mounting work pressure.

In a totally new work environment, on-boarders need motivation from their managers to take up challenging tasks with confidence. Only by showing trust in new joiners and treating them in the same way you deal with other employees, you can keep them motivated.

When you expect them to perform well, you have to encourage them for the same.

Here’re the six ways you can motivate your new employees.

#1 Sell Your Mission Statement to Your New Employees

You must have memorized the elevator pitch that you presented in front of potential investors. It included what your company is all about along with its overarching goals. You don’t have to save that elevator pitch just for potential investors and partners. It can also be used for making new employees align with your corporate vision & mission. When you make the purpose and cause of your organization clear to new joiners, you can inspire them to play an active role in fulfilling organizational goals.

#2 Don’t Just Motivate Your Staff: Inspire Them

Motivating your new joiners isn’t enough to keep them productive and loyal towards your organizational goals. To stand apart from competitors, you need to inspire the workforce. Inspired employees think out of the box to resolve a complex business problem efficiently. They are ignited from within to push themselves towards accomplishing bigger goals. They are eager for new challenges and adapt positively to new roles and responsibilities.

#3 Set Milestones & Track Their Progress

Start by setting short-term goals for your new joiners to ignite the feeling of motivation.  They are likely to feel motivated after every short-term goal that they achieve. Also, it can be easier for you to track the progress of new joiners based on short-term goals. When you set realistic goals, every employee can feel motivated to put dedicated efforts.

#4 Communicate Individually with Them About Work

Communicating individually with employee, especially new ones, is important to discuss their work process and carer growth. This way, you will be able to know what they are up to and challenges they are facing in terms of work. You will also succeed in developing a strong relationship with new employees to know what they are really good at. Accordingly, you can assign them appropriate tasks and provide adequate training to fulfil new roles with efficiency. HRMS software can be used for automating tasks like work allocation, training and performance review.

#5 Reward When They Perform Well

You need to have a strong system of rewards not just for new joiners but for every employee. Financial compensation is not the only way to show your employees that you value their work. You need to think about new ways to appreciate the work of high performers and celebrate their success. Giving them time offs and options to work from home for a specific period can work well towards motivating them for hard work.

#6 Lead from The Front Lines

Corporate leaders need to consider themselves as leaders on the front line of battlefield. All eyes are going to be on you, and your actions will determine how dedicatedly your employees are likely to work for you. When you fulfil every task at hand with energy and perfection, new joiners are likely to take inspiration from your passion towards work.

Most importantly, you need to eliminate dissatisfaction, such as uncertainty about the future and pushy supervision.
