All-

One of my friends of 30+ years, Bob Adler, lost his wife to cancer on April 25, 2007. Bob and I still spend our weekends during the summer lifeguarding at Jones Beach; as is common amongst lifeguards, our families seamlessly blend together and I consider his loss, my loss.

Perhaps it wasn't always the case but as the Aerosmith song goes, pink is my favorite color; as such I am participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk this coming weekend as part of the Margaret Ross-Adler Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps Team. If you can spare $5, I would be honored if you would donate an Abe Lincoln to the cause; do so by clicking here - please add that you're supporting me, Steve Levy in the box that says "Hope starts with you and your personal donation of". Naturally, if you want to donate more, I'll write a nice blog post about you - come on, this is big!

I'll be posting pictures of the event Sunday evening and sharing stories about people I meet - and interview - during the walk.

Thanks.

If you want to call me to ask more questions, my cell is 203-216-6226; my email is here.

Hi Maureen - if you just type in my name in the box that has Hope starts with you and your personal donation of, it will all track back to me.

As an added bit of info, there are 508 lifeguards in the Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps. and we're expecting about 25% to be walking with Bob and the team. Any of us with "years" at the beach - I've been doing this since 1977 - knew Margaret very well and saw Bob's and Margaret's kids grow up on the beach. Their oldest graduated from the Naval Academy and is now in the SEAL program; his daughter is presently a senior at the Academy and looks to be going EOD. The youngest is at the University of Colorado and looks to becoming a teacher after a master's program in snowboarding - jk...
