Jason Davis thinks that we have too many friends.

All the pop psychology books say that you can't have a meaningful network of more than 150 people. Beyond that it is more like a customer database or a fan club.

So I'm suggesting that RBC try having a formal policy of 150 friends per member. It would be the social network version of Twitter.

This would give RBC a chance to institute the kind of trusted network policy that Jobster and LinkedIn have tried to introduce and failed.

It might work because there is little value in having a lot of friends on RBC. Anyone can connect with anyone directly and who wants to receive the kind of mass junk mail we now get on RBC (eg new years greetings from people we don't know).

I have over 800 friends and I would be willing to defriend those with whom I have no ongoing relationship.

So I urge JD to invite all members to come forward and throw their friend lists on the bonfire -- just like Beatle records in 1966 -- and run a bulldozer over them and then start anew.

Let's start 2009 with a real revolution on Recruitingblogs.com. Bring Limited Networks to RBC!

Animal - my policy has always been "why should we be friends"? With that in mind I have managed to grow my RBC community to a cozy 119 friends. I have determined that of those - around 100 have actually connected with me in a "real" way in the past 6 months or so.

Its easy to see how you and others within the Recruiterati community have so many wannabe's begging to befriend them. For regular guys/gals its a different story.

So you famous people - yeah, sure - burn 'em all. They'll flock back in droves. But regular staffers like me - we just don't have that problem yet.

P.S. Where's my award? My mom and dad want to see it.

I have started my process and it's amazing how many "friends" I have with no profiles set up. I am not looking to go crazy with this stuff. It was just the way the day went yesterday and I think it flows from not paying attention you become connected with. Just my opinion. I don't think we need a revolution.

You know what Prince said: "Let's go crazy. Let's go nuts!"

PS: Jer, I get almost no friend requests. I used to make friend requests of all new members. You guys think the well known players are more popular than they are. Cheezhead and JD are legitimately popular. Not many others.

JD has this entity participated since it joined. Yet look at the friends hitting on him/her?

PS: Do blog postings appear on the front page. I cant see them. If not, you've followed the lead of HRMToday and might as well take the blogging function off of RBC. Because it would be worthless.
