Social networking Status: Dismissed

A 16-year-old girl from Essex was fired after she described her office job as "boring" on her Facebook page.

In the last five years social networking has exploded into everyday life with most people now having a Facebook, Myspace or Bebo account. Users of these sites will however been thinking twice before sounding off too much about their everyday life.

This week a 16 year old girl from Clacton working at a marketing and logistics has been given the sack for suggesting her job was “boring” on social networking site Facebook. A representative from the Firm said that her comments were a “display of disrespect”.

This latest issue regarding social networking comes in the same week that Facebook have said it is to allow it users to drive future policies governing the site.

This news may have social networkers scrambling to login into their accounts to make sure nothing is written that could get them in trouble with their current employer but does this raise the argument ‘should employers access to their workers private views and opinions’?

Bosses will surely not be listening out for employees views at weekends in during private leisure pursuits so should they look out for employees opinions on social networking sites?
