Employers have to take into consideration the requirement for flexible working hours that employees are increasingly demanding. This information is taken from a survey that Microsoft recently implemented among 1000 office workers. The generated results show that 73% of the surveyed regard the opportunity for self-determining their working time as essential when deciding to accept a new position. What is more, more than half of the employees maintain that flexibility will help them cope with work-related stress.

At the same time, only 16% of the companies being surveyed have flexible working hours policies and more than half of the employees admit that they spend their entire day sitting at their desks.

The results from this survey have yielded the idea for the Microsoft People Moving Business Awards, together with Management Today, the Chartered Management Institute and Business Link. The purpose for this initiative is to reward the best practices in mobile working wherever they may be found, throughout companies or as undertakings of individual employees. The jury will decide upon factors as extensive usage of mobile technologies that lead to both enhanced productivity and employee and customer satisfaction.

The awards will be distributed in September 2007. If you would like to read more about the contest, please click here.
