Yes, some great candidates we initially hooked get away.  The reasons are varied but often come down to timing and availability.  The good news is - you can go back after the really good ones.  I landed a big catch some two years later after a failed recruitment effort.  19 years later that great candidate continues to work for the appreciative employer I represented.
