A recent survey conducted by recruitment specialists Hays revealed that the private sector is missing out on a key tool for the recovery by taking wrong approach when it comes to having a flexible workforce.

They view this group of workers, made up of both permanent and temporary staff, as a way of avoiding permanent headcount, instead of as a means of tapping into new skills.

Public sector employers have a more positive outlook on temporary workers as 44 per cent say they are essential to the success of their organisation, a view that is held by just a third of their private sector counterparts.

Both permanent and temporary staff appointments increased at slower, albeit still marked, rates during June, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG revealed recently.
