The use of temporary workers has risen, according to new figures, which may interest those trying to set up a recruitment agency.

According to data published by de Poel, a procurer of temporary agency labour, there has been a 19 per cent increase in the number of hours worked by temporary employees since August last year.

There has also been a rise of 27 per cent between July and August.

Chief executive officer of de Poel Matthew Sanders commented: "As business confidence declines, temporary agency workers are being relied upon more heavily to fill skills gaps in the workforce."

The findings are applicable to all industry sectors, according to the company's research.

A recent study by the Centre for Economic and Business Research showed that unemployment may particularly affect the northern regions in the next five years.
