Graduates are still choosing jobs that align with traditional gender roles, one expert has noted, which could be of interest to those trying to set up a recruitment agency.

The Guardian UK 300 survey notes that men are still opting for jobs which promise a larger salary, while women are more likely to aim for nurturing roles.

Of those surveyed, females rated the NHS graduate scheme as their third preferred choice, while this was rated 34th by men.

Meanwhile, Dan Hawes, co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, comments that the IT sector is still struggling to recruit women due to its reputation as a male-dominated field.

He notes that "planning ahead is really key" when it comes to success after graduation - with the number of graduates competing for roles rising, students need to plan to get ahead.
