How important do you think it is to keep your Profiles consistent from one social networking site to the next? One of my firm's major initiatives for 2008 is to increase our presence online and we aim to do that by being visible and accessible through various social networking sites like LinkedIn, Spoke, Quiet Agent, MySpace and Facebook amongst a few others. Some I've turned to have suggested that my company's Profile and image should appear the same as people jump from one site/community to the next. Others have urged me to use slight variations depending on the site/community in question and its related audience. I'm curious what others here might think.

Personally I would keep it the same on all sites to make it recognizable by people. If it's diffrent, it might get confusing.
I have the same general message, with logo and domain names on all sites. But each site ispecific content is a little different. LinkedIn and Facebook or MySpace are not the same. I guess it also depends on who you are targeting.

Or try this. If doing corporate pages on the sites, then yes they should be the same as any marketing piece would be. Personal pages, should be, well, personal and tailored to the audience.
Thank you both for taking the time to respond. You both bring uo some great points. One thing we've seen after only a week or so with these online communities is how there's a slight, but distinct difference between users. For instance, we've kept our message the same in all places, but we've noticed that how we present that info has to be slightly different for a Facebook user as it is for a MySpace user. In any event, I'm excited to watch the evolution and development of these communities to see how different they might become. Thanks again for your thoughts!
