Sales Compensation Recruiting Question: 30% of OTE or 30% of Base Salary + A % of Commission at Year's End

Good afternoon, Everyone. I wanted to briefly reach out with a sales compensation fee strucure %.

Typically, my goal is 30% of OTE (On-Target Earnings), however there are times when, of course, we must be flexible.

Is anyone aware of any fee structures that work well and are innovative? For example, a given % of base + a given % of commission?

For example, assuming a sales quota of $1.5M USD + OTE of $150k USD . . . then 30% of OTE = $45k (despite a base salary of only 1/3 of OTE, or $50k base for year 1).

Obviously, for us to defer our fee . . . there is risk and 30% is not worth taking on that addt'l risk.

P.S. Note that this is a niche field in which there are probably a max of 15 true Rainmakers in North America with a consistent track record of selling success that would be attractive.
