SHRM 2010

Meetings on the side. Coveted tables and chairs. Starbucks cups. Alliances formed. Partnerships established. Vendors reviewed. Friends hugging. The language of our industry spoken. Life stops - for a moment - to renew, to gain new impetus to excel. Red carpets. Slushies. Marketing opps abound. Margaritas. Handshakes.

Sessions. Lessons learned. New thoughts emerge. New thought leaders emerge. Current thought leaders share ideas, concepts, and their time. Practitioners reveal excellent practices. Sore feet. Good food. Good music. Good times.

We come together for all of the reasons listed and many more. SHRM brings more HR folks together than any other conference. They are doing something right. They see the needs of an industry that has, like so many others, been threatened, drained, and rejuvenated. There is a buzz that floats through the air, down the halls, and in & out of exhibitor booths. Familiar names linger on the air and cards are passed to seal deals and new friendships.

I watched Gerry Crispin do an interview with Beyond.com and answer the question, "What do you expect to get out of SHRM 2010?" His enthusiasm for this industry stays strong. He lives it like the rest of us. He eats and breathes it. His love for exposing the candidate experience drives his interest and life work. He leads the way down a unique path. Follow.

So many suns that we revolve around. Take in the warmth and you won't believe how you'll grow. You owe it to your career. The payoff awaits you.
