Those looking for recruitment agency formation advice may want to take heed a cautionary note issued by the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS).

Employers and recruiters who consider applicants' University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) tariffs in their recruitment process could be "missing out on some fantastic talent," the organisation has stated.

The claim was made as UCAS announced that it would carry out a "comprehensive review" of its points-based system used by university admissions departments, hinting at the fact that it was now outdated.

Chris Jackson, spokesperson for AGCAS, explained that the UCAS system should not be used in graduate recruitment as "to use academic attainment at school when there is more recent evidence available is not in either students' or employers' interests".

This is because it can penalise those who may not have been in a school with smaller classes or better teachers or other mitigating factors that can affect performance, added the representative.
