Hey Recruiting Junkies...

One of my many tasks this year is to revamp/rebuild our on-boarding program at adidas. I know there is a lot of debate in the industry on whether this is a Recruitment function or HR but here at adidas it's considered Recruiting.

I'm not looking a traditional bricks and mortar approach. I want to build something innovative and somewhat self managing. I've seen way too many complicated on-boarding programs die soon after implimentation.

If any of you have seen something really spectacular please let me now. I'm interested in how to automate the process, how to use web 2.0 to enhance (internal social networking ,etc), and other creative ways to bring the on-boarding experience to life with technology. I'm open to hearing about expensive systems down to grassroots approaches.

I'm also open to ideas about bricks and mortar programs if you think they are highly innovative. Traditional presentations by company leaders I'm trying to stay away from. These programs from my experience are too difficult to sustain.

Thanks Gang!!

Hey Steve -

I really love the SilkRoad Red Carpet program - would use some more SN, but they are working on it. If you are interested let me know and I can connect you with the VP over there.

Sarah
Steve - just saw this post. I'll send you a sample online onboarding platform that may spark some ideas for you.

I've just started as the Recruitment Manager for IMAX here in Toronto.  We are looking at making our onboarding experience a "creative" one to align to our films i.e. Avatar, etc.  Can you forward examples of online onboarding samples that are creative and interactive?

Thanks

Estrella,

Greetings from sunny Los Angeles :>  The most engaging on-boarding experiences I have seen, from both ends (as the new employee as well as the developer of on-boarding programs) have two critical components in common:  1) In person face-to-face with employees from different divisions/locations/business units, and 2)  Have specific content that addresses the espoused employee culture and organization's values.  Further the material needs to "come off the page" and be interactive in terms of leaders meeting with the participants to lead some of the content and form personal connections.

A couple that I have experienced so you can maybe follow-up to learn more:  "Discovery Days" @ Philip Morris USA, and "Signature New Hire" program @ Deloitte.

Have fun with it too, it can be a super way to become an identified champion of the company culture by leading the process of creating what can be a memorable experience in an employee's tenure.
