I have been recruiting for close to 20 years.   For about 15 years I have been working independently from home,  this has it's advantages but can really skew your perspective.    What I am taking time out to ponder is around face-time with Hiring Managers.     I am one of those people that hesitates to take someone's limited time.   I think other independent recruiters are busier taking hiring managers to lunch and the like but I kind of have the opinion that these are busy people and if they have free time they probably have other people they want to pass that time with.   I feel I should schmooze more and have more face-time.

So what do some of you think is the optimal amount of face-time with a hiring manager?   How often do you try to lunch or do an after work happy hour?  Do any of you have these same thoughts?

Hi Elise,

I am actually a new healthcare independent recruiter. Since you have been doing this for a while, can you tell me how you go about getting new clients and job orders?  Do you just go to job boards to see who's hiring or do you cold call?  This has been the one area that i have struggled and i would like to get much stronger and strategic.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
