Hi CB,
If they look really great, I will keep calling until I connect. It's really all a matter of timing. I recently placed a Director of eCommerce and it was with someone who didn't call me back the first 3 times, and this was over several months as the role was nearly filled at one point, then back to square one, so I tried again, she answered the phone, and is now working for my client. It really came down to timing, so it does pay to be persistent, but there is a fine line there and it makes a difference how far apart the calls are too as situations can change when a few weeks or months pass and suddenly the timing could be right.

Thanks Pam for that insight. I have also wondered about this question. What if the candidate is not the best and you have a few other candidates that are just as qualified?
I just called a candidate for the 6th time and he answered and looks like an interview. He was on vacation and was glad I called so many times...
Call CAll CALL and keep calling
Maybe I'm missing something - but once I've sent an email - and left a voicemail I will try both one more time (maybe) but that's the end of it. I'm not a pushy person. I figure they have heard my message, read my email several times and have made a decision about it.....Especially if they have previously responded to me in some fashion.

I'm looking for interest level, professionalism, follow through skills, etc.

I'll move on rather quickly if I sense I'm barking up the wrong tree.
Very good comments and advice; however, have you considered the candidate's side? Perhaps you are dealing with someone who is constantly in demand or someone who likes the attention from recruiters. So now ask yourself, how bad do you want to fill the position? If the answer is really bad and I am desperate; then keep calling the candidate and they will either ignore you or appreciate your efforts.

I am looking for candidates that are really motivated and willing to go the extra mile with me. Relationship building is the key to successful recruiting.
I asked my wife at atleast 7 times before we got the first date. We haver been married for 18 years and has 2 great kids. Think I just answered my owne question.
