How long does it take you to write a publishable position spec for a new search?

Doesn't it depend on the type of position, the depth of experience you're looking for, etc? And doesn't it also depend on where you go for research, how involved your hiring manager is involved as far as specing the job out? Not an easy question to answer. But for the most part it's an hour to three hours depending on the level, impact on the organization, etc.

Curious as to why you're asking the question? Are you being held accountable for "quick" turn-around on newly created job descriptions?
I've noticed that a lot of recruiters don't seem to take the time to write a spec and leave it up to a few email snipets to explain the role. I was wondering if it really takes so much time (am I missing something) that one should forgoe this step. I've always found it quite useful for both candidate education and client buy-in. What do you think?

I can usually crank out a reasonably articulate spec in about 15 minutes because earlier in my career I used to have to write business plans and executive summaries 60 hours a week as a grunt in an investment bank.
I can do one in about fifteen minutes..I'm used to doing technical writing and white papers, so I can take phone conversation notes, any internet research, or whatever, and then hammer it into something useable.

The length of time isn't as important ( to me anyway) as long as whoever you are writing for can comprehend and act on it.
