Hard to turn on the news or visit a news site and not find commentary related to the Affordable Care Act. The impact that it will have on individuals remains to be seen, but it certainly presents a number of HR challenges for companies across the country. Staffing firms are not immune. Below is a link to a local article of staffing firms working to address the ACA impact.

Uncertainty is a fact of life for staffing companies, says Annette Lefebvre, executive vice president and controller of Bonney Staffing Center. But even with almost 25 years in the business, she admits the Affordable Care Act has been off the chart in the complexity and questions it's creating for her company and other staffing firms.

Are any RBC members facing challenges related to the ACA? Any temp staffing firms feel this will greatly impact their business? As a healthcare recruiter I would love to open this to a larger discussion.

Thoughts?

Great article on the ACA.  Like them, we've listened to a ton of webinars, attended local meetings, etc, only to walk away with little to no info.  I guess the bottom line for us is that we are not a 'temp' company, meaning all our positions are slated for hire. The longest an employee is on our payroll is six months, and since we cycle them off, we don't come close to the 50 employee mark (we are a boutique firm, not a huge 'temp company').  We are not going to be changing our business model for any reason as well.

There may come a day when we are over 50 employees, and if that happens, we'll still follow the rules.  No one, who is rightfully entitled to benefits should be excluded because we don't want to 'pay' for it, or because we don't like the politics behind it. Laws are laws, and of course we'll follow them!
