What are leadership qualities?
Can individuals be trained to be leaders?
What is the value of a person/company that can identify (recruit) leaders?
Does competition filter leaders? Can you give an example?

Many LinkedIn answers coming to this question here. Don't miss Ron Lichty's answer - it's one of the most informative pieces on leadership I've ever read!
It occurred to me listening to all three that their power seemed to derive from their revealing who they really are, sometimes in a sincerely vulnerable way. They know who they are, and what their values are, and what's important to them, and how that fits with their vision for the firm. And they're willing to share those things honestly and authentically whether one-on-one or with large audiences. ~Ron Lichty, Software Development and Technology Change Leader
Two words...

Richard Phillips
Can you tell us why Steve? I'm missing the cryptic.

Phillips is the captain of the cargo ship who gave himself to the pirates so his crew could "escape"

Yes, Leadership is the key to success. Look at Moses. Great leader that got his people out of Egypt. However, it took another leader to get them into the promised land.

Leadership can get you only so far, then I it's time to get a new leader. We lean on those leaders that have certain qualities that can get the company stable again. Then we look to replace old leaders with more innovative ones. So there is a value is identifying the right folks that can lead at the right times.
