He said anywhere but there, as his wife was very frightened by earthquakes. I sent him on several interviews with my best clients in the Northeast (all of which pursued him to the next level). As a long-shot, and truly hoping not to anger my newly found gem of a candidate (he was a true 'diamond in the rough'), I asked him if he would simply investigate an all-expenses-paid trip to a great client of mine in CA, just so he would know for sure what all of his options really included. I was so glad I asked him that very tough question (I almost didn't)! So, can you guess what state I placed him in, and where he's been working for the last 12 years since then? Yes, California! Then you find a job for them a week later and leave 6 messages, emails and texts and then finally 4 days later they call you back. Mind you they are currently unemployed and they tell you they have been busy. You explain that the job is not a good fit, put their info into your archive database and think to yourself....there is a reason that person is unemployed and vow not to waste your time on lost causes going forward....until the next morning when you come across what you think may be a diamond in the rough and the process starts all over again. Once we feel they are a good fit, we offer this tool as a value add and most people use it and comment on how the process makes them think through their "relevant" points to make during the interview. Putting their qualifications and supporting content to a paper presentation, more or less forces them to think through what they will say during the interview. Another obvious market for www.wintheview.com is the outplacement and career coaching crowd. These people are being coached to land a job sooner, so to the extent the career coach or consultant helps the individual with the presentation approach, the candidate should be able to assemble a strong presentation. When the job seeker visits our site by referral or another means, we have developed a series of pull down libraries that help the individual build the presentation. We still have a ways to go in terms of making the site intuitive, but it works today and we have many success stories. I would be happy to discuss further and welcome your comments. As more candidates become visible, it also means more sh*t to wade through - thats where a TPR still has a function - find that diamond amongst the crap. They also build a PSL (Preff Supplies List) based on companies core values, which suppliers have to fit - leaving scope for a TPR to supply extra value in line with the companies needs. So next five years.... Europe or the States, you going to have to look abroad more, and supply abroad more - you cannot ignore China or India - they are begining to get short of labour in certian sectors - Design for example. As long as you have your own USP (Mine is a dedicted in house training acedemy), have clients who are partners, flexible over your markets, work with Candidates as people and embrace change ( we all have succeeded in moving on from Rolodex...) - your model should survive. I also think decent recruiters will work together more, pooling resources and fending off the bottom feeders in order to survive.
