And never making less than $100K since 1998. I have been a partner/owner of our recruiting firm where we brought our annual revenue from $0 to $800k within 5 years. I have brought in several large accounts and have never had less than 35+ placements a year 2004-2008. This is all selling at national level and on 100% commission, while training, coaching and hiring 9 others over the last 6 years. In 2002/2003, I was National Sales Rep for Careerbuilder out of Irvine handling F500 accounts selling at “C” level. In 2000/2002, I was a territory sales rep for Adecco in San Diego and promoted to an Area Manager of OC where I managed a team of 16 Sales Executives including: 1 Branch Manager, 4 Outside Territory Account Managers, 1 Internal Direct Recruiter, 3 Onsite Managers, and 7 Staff recruiters. I sold payrolling and PEO services for Adecco as well. From 1992-2000, I worked for Macys as a Store Manager 1997-2000, Regional Manager of Home 1995-1997, Area Sales Manager 1992-1995, Asst Buyer 1992. I am VERY flexible and well connected in the retail world. Store or Buying Line, District or Regional, Ops, Logistics, Facilities, Supply Chain, HR, Recruiting. Comment on: Topic 'Why Clients Treat Contingency Recruiters Badly': ly playing at the higher levels. Not that my opinion means anything but that's just an impression I got. I think any one of us could go on and on about our miserable dealings with HR. THEY are the ones who are a necessary evil. HR is overhead. Recruiters solve problems. Plain and simple. Of course my opinion isn't completely objective but hey this is "Recruiting Blog" after all isn't it? I remember one distinct client. I've had others similarly bad but this one particular HR Director had it in for me. I'm usually good about giving people the benefit of the doubt and save this type of cynical thinking towards the end but this lady really proved it over and over and over again with the reqs she gave me and every single time hiring someone who totally did not fit with the picture she painted with what she claimed was needed. I mean she once told me to find a Property Manager (obviously non IT search I was willing to do) with over 7 years of experience, etc etc. all the list of regular credentials. In about 40 days, she lets me know that they've already made an offer to someone with fewer than 2 years of experience and NO background. I mean really? We are the marines of our field. What I think is particularly strange is when someone with a background that has depth to it does this when instead they could be starting their on flavor of conversation like the group here does. Anyway, thank you again. Sorry I could not run with your 'veteran' idea- I got my start by picking a field in which many companies pay recruitment fees and have stuck to that modus operandi ever since. No one is going to pay a fee for an ex-artillery guy so specializing in veteran recruitment makes no sense to me; I prefer to be where there are lots of job orders floating around. On the other hand, all my retained searches have been with companies outside of my usual circles; these were a consequence of our having been consulting to them and the CEO would bring up the need for a key person so we'd add that to the consulting mix. The only link between my recruiting and my being a veteran is that one of my niches is Healthcare since I was an army medic so I know the language, culture, etc. making it easy to gain credibility from the start when I am dealing with hospitals and their candidate pool.
