Stopped his deal at the 11th hour and 59th minute when the alarm bells in my brain started going off when he seemed inordinately interested in how fast he would receive his hiring bonus. Seems this guy would use someone else's identity and resume, go through the process, get hired, start work,collect the hiring bonus then disappear after a couple of weeks. When a company went looking for him they discovered some poor guy who was still working at the last job reflected on the resume who had never interviewed with anybody. The end came because the recruiter crook had used the same resume twice. My con artist had been very adamant that i not call him at work or leave any voice messages on his work phone. I called the company on the resume asked for him. A very pleasant fellow answered by name. I identified myself, asked him if he was ready to start with XXXcorp Monday. When he said, "Mrs McCartt i don't believe i have ever spoken with you before and i have never heard of XXXcorp but please stay on the line i would like to reach the FBI and patch them in to this call." "My identity has been stolen and this same thing happened about two months ago but this person applied through a web site so there was not a third party involved, he used a chain of bogus emails and a prepaid cell so perhaps this time we can catch him. Because my crook had not started yet and thought he was still under the radar he still had the cell so the FBI was able to grab him. It was a pretty cool sting that ended with the FBI walking into a recruiting firm and bagging him at his desk with the resume in his attache case. Once the perp was identified the real person recalled applying for a job through the recruiting firm a year or so earlier , he had filled out an application and provided his SSN and completely forgotten about it when nothing every happened. And we wonder why people are hesitant to give us the information to check them out. It was not the finest moment when i had to call my client and let them know that Mr. Crook would not be showing up for work on Monday because he was not the person to whom the resume belonged. Who knows how many times he had done it. The FBI may know but they simply said it was not the first time but it might be the last for a while. My client gave a statement as did i, client identified the crook's picture as the person who had represented himself with the resume. I know the guy's real name. Once in a while i do a quick search just to see if he has gotten out and is working for another recruiting firm. How close did you background check that guy who is on your sales desk? :) These really bizzare ones happen once in a while but it seems that the less sophisticated liars are coming out of the woodwork in droves. I found a totally bogus profile on Linkedin last week, could be a real person using a false name to protect their identity but it could also be a recruiter trying to locate that kind of job opening . Just happen to have a connection at the company listed on the profile. They have never heard of the person and there is no one there who has the background shown on the profile and never has been.…; Added by Sandra McCartt at 12:21am on January 12, 2011

I did everything from Marketing which meant sending out literature-to posting on College Sites to actually visiting Universities and attempting to meet with their HR Staff. I sent out letters to KPMG and ERNST and after 6months mail solicitation had them sign agreements. Unfortunately the market was volatile and I found through reading a book on sales(How to sell the Invisible) that I was undercutting myself by asking for only ten percent. Only when I raised the asking rate did I get responses. Even then KPMG needed Tax LLM's to go to Florida for $60,000-at the time that was what an Assoicate Level Programmer or computer technician was making in New York. I found the work interesting worked 6 days helping my father in a little venture selling vitamins-I tried my hand at waiting , I took the test to become an interpreter witht he courts through Berlitz at the time. Nothing seemed to work. I went to register for Berlitz and at the time found an advertising job that seemed to be offerring full time stable work and ceased trying. Yes I should have gone to the Chamber of Commerce- Yes I should have worked with the community trying to locate administrative staff jobs-it could have worked-I did not. But through the experience of working with Agencies in Manhattan New York they were asking for Net 10 days or pro-rated over 90 days 1/3 upon placement and the other two thirds after. This woman of course had contacts and a sister with Many Manhattan Contacts. I was asking for 10% then 20% pro-rated the asking. After ceasing operations I went to work for a woman who was trying to set up what would now be referred as a Workforce Center. She wanted to offer real estate, Insurance and Temporary search and staffing services from one location. she charged per hour aproximately three dollars for the smallest jobs and she had a schedule. She charged a company per hours worked by her employees which meant week;ly. The most recent which waas a non-proifit under a contract with several grant funding organizations was 1/3 after two weeks of placement-which took more like one month and then 1/3 at 90th and another third wouold be at the 180 days This was to ensure that the candidates sent by the Human Resource Administration, youth to career, or clients that were walk in's serching to improve their salaries or to find better would remain at their jobs and that the fit was a good fit. Topic: 2009 Predictions with Jeff Weidner: l it goes the other way sometimes. It's the good years though that keep the lips smiling and the warm and fuzzies in your gut. In the tough times, it's real important to remember the good. Sometimes it's not so easy but nevertheless it's necessary and certainly we need to think always about the next 365 days - good or bad. I was talking to Jeff Weidner and we were talking about some of this stuff before you know it, we had a plan so instead of me continuing, Jeff is going to take the floor here with this post. There is no doubt that the end of 2008 definitely made an impact on a lot of people. And since the holidays fell in the middle of the week, plenty of people have had time to look back and reflect on everything that went on throughout the year. There was plenty to remember, 2008 was a busy year. If December is the time of year to look back and reflect on the year that has just gone by then January is definitely the time to look forward. It has been promised that 2009 will be year for “Hope and Change” and I’d like to share my predictions for 2009. Prediction # 1 Recruiters that built their social network originally to locate and identify potential candidates will be looking for more ways to leverage those relationships and turn them into job orders and placement fees. So if you are a member on any social network, you can expect to get a lot more phone calls, e-mails, resumes and forward requests from the contacts you've made off all your social networks. Recruiters will be utilizing those networks more efficiently not only to locate and identify potential candidates but also customers. They’ll also be looking for new and innovative ways to reach out and engage with their networks as email campaigns are only so effective and it’s the organizations that can not only attract the membership base but also keep them engaged and coming back that will eventually retain the business. Prediction # 2 Recruiting and Sourcing fees will decline. Fees will be reduced by two main factors: a. The first factor will be competition, as it becomes more competitive in the marketplace recruiting firms will become more aggressive in their pricing strategies to win business away from their competitors. b. The second factor will be a matter of candidate supply and demand. As the candidate supply goes up companies will inevitably lower salaries and contingent fees based on those lower salaries will follow that trend. In most markets, I’d expect about a 5% drop in salaries but it could be as high as 10-15% in some of the most competitive markets. Contributing factors will be A) fewer positions available in the marketplace and B) because of a big increase in highly skilled and qualified candidate to fill the positions due to layoffs. Consequently, those companies that are hiring will have the pick of the litter at a much lower salary cost per employee hired as compared to a few years ago. Prediction # 3 Since the financial crisis facing the USA is also one that is hitting the entire global community across all sectors and industries I’d expect to see some consolidation/M&A activity of recruiting companies that have a good client and asset base in late spring to early summer. Expansion at the earliest signs of a recovery will be largely dependent on loosening of financing strings that are currently tying up markets but could provide a lot of benefit in stabilizing the marketplace. Prediction # 4 The baby boomer retirement wave that many recruiting firms (and future retirees) have been waiting for will be delayed at least 1-2 years. The Social Security Administration stated that the first set of baby boomers became eligible for retirement benefits in 2008. But with the financial market vaporizing stock and mutual fund retirement portfolios many baby boomers will have to delay retirement a few years to catch up risk locking in those losses when they rebalance their accounts in preparation for retirement. Many baby boomers that were not prepared for the financial meltdown may need to obtain part time work during their retirement, at least for a time, to offset major losses in the market. This could actually help US corporations that are willing to implement flexible schedules for their aging workforces. So there are my predictions for 2009. Please remember 2008 is in the past, all things in life are temporary and it’s up to us to create that new life in 2009 that is full of “Hope and Change”!
