Looking Toward 2009 With Hopeful Eyes

Greetings Everyone:

Hopefully, many of you are in the holiday spirit and ready to ring in 2009. I know I am. After the economic meltdown of 2008 and seeing the legal recruiting market practically dry up, I am ready for 2008 to leave and 2009 arrive. Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but I truly feel that it cannot get much worse and all we have to go from here is up.

During this last quarter of 2008, I took a leave of absence from my blogging. With everyday of bad news, I just… Continue

Dream Candidates Really Do Exist!!

As I was preparing for my upcoming week, I got an email that made my world. My very first dream candidate has materialized before my virtual eyes.

This candidate isn't a dream candidate because he attended a top 15 law school. He isn't a dream candidate because he graduated from this top law school with excellent grades. Nor is he a wonderful candidate because he went to work for one of the most prestigous law firms in New York. Although the credentials are enough to make most… Continue

As Legal Recruiters, Do We Practice What We Preach?

I am going to state from the begining that this blog, or as they say in legal land, "blawg", will be more of a train of thought. My apologies from the start. I usually write my blogs in Word and then copy the blog to the posting site. However, this blog was screaming to get out. I think it has something to do with my new self reflection approach to life.

As a legal recruiter, I am sitting back and trying not to panic at the state of the legal market. The talk of major New York… Continue

Associate Disloyalty and What It Means For Diversity Recruitment

Anyone in the legal industry who hasn’t been under a rock for the past forty-some odd years can tell you that the legal profession has changed. Attorney loyalties to one employer throughout one’s career no longer exist. Gone are the days where attorneys graduated from law school and went to work for an employer where they remained until the close of their career. Nowadays, it’s not surprising to hear of attorneys that have worked for four or five different employers during the course of their… Continue

I agree. MLA could really benefit from a social media strategy, or at least a seminar. (Who knows, maybe the state of the economy will make them more receptive to new approaches?) Looking forward to discussing after the new year. In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday!
