Alabama Passes Tough New Immigration Law

The State of Alabama has passed what some have considered one of the toughest immigration laws in the country. The law was passed initially by a large voting margin and comes in the wake of the recent United States Supreme Court ruling on the Arizona's Legal Worker's Act of 2007 that sanctions businesses for hiring undocumented workers. Businesses in Arizona face fines and even loss of business license for repeated offenses.

Illinois To Deny Workers Comp to Those Who Fail Drug and Alcohol Testing

Illinois has decided to make Workers Compensation benefits more difficult for those  who may be inebriated on the job.  The state has passed the "Presumptive Denial Law."  Which means if you test positive for drugs or alcohol  you are denied your workers compensation benefits.  The State's Governor is expected to sign this legislation, which would take effect September 1st.

E-Verify and the Supreme Court Ruling on the Arizona Legal Workers Act

In response to the recent United States Supreme Court Ruling to uphold the 2007 Legal Arizona Workers Act, the Los Angeles Times has issued an editorial saying that you cannot rely on E-Verify or the I-9 Background Search.   The Arizona Law stipulates that employers who hire undocumented or illegal workers will be penalized for doing so and that the second offense may result in the revocation…
