I see it in the slumping gaits of commuters.
I see it in the desperate eyes of recruiters.
I see it in the headlines about thousand dollar trash cans.
I do not fear because I walk tall, I am confident, and I do not read the news.
I'm not afraid of storms, for I'm learning how to sail my ship.
~Louisa May Alcott
Truthfully I read the news
but also read other news
. It's easy to be caught up in the contagion if you don't know the other side's view. No, I am not afraid.
Wall Street turns to Wail Street yet five hedge fund leaders
each earned more than $1B in salary for 2007. They are not afraid; they are fearless, confident, knowledgeable and dismiss the herd.
As recruiters, we need to be equally fearless, confident, knowledgeable and dismissive of the herd. Let the herd walk sullenly around complaining about the dearth of openings and My oh, my, no one's calling me back!
Let the Biggest Herd Member hunker down to be followed by their minions. I'll try and pick them up but if they are weak and can no longer stand, there is only one thing to do: Let them perish.
I am not afraid for I know the truth.
There are companies where money is being made. Credit may be short but products and services are being sold. People are working on new projects and are excited about the work they are doing. Their organizations are hiring but are doing so quietly. Amidst the tsunami of resumes and perfect candidates
are relationships built over time.
These are my relationships and I recruit as if I am a shareholder.
The sun has never set on recruiting but the eclipse is your own. Don't be afraid anymore.
