Transportation includes moving people and goods such as purchased items, food, and industrial materials. Transporting materials can make a great career, but can also be dangerous. In fact, over one million people die in vehicular accidents every year. However, there are transportation jobs that appear safer than others. This article describes five transportation jobs that appear safe.
While driving a truck increases your time spent on the road, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration limits the amount of hours truck drivers can drive per week. As well, the business that contracts with the driver requires a log that provides an extra layer of security.
While airplanes are used for traveling, they are also used to deliver packages over long distances. This type of transportation requires many talents, from the pilots to the flight attendants. You may have heard that you're more likely to die in a car than on a plane. Well, the odds of dying on a single flight is one in 30 million. So, the saying appears to hold some weight.
FedEx delivers around ten million packages each day. Through driver safety training, vehicle inspection, and adhering to regulations when transporting special packages, FedEx maintains safety. In fact, several FedEx drivers were so well trained that they were crowned National Truck Driving Champions.
While food delivery can be a dangerous job, food transportation through a food delivery service such as Order Up adds safety to the job through the use of technology. The use of technology has taken the exchange of money out of the equation as well as using GPS programs to ensure that the food is delivered on time.
Uber is a company, similar to a taxi service, except the client is picked up in a regular vehicle. While anybody can apply to become an Uber driver, Uber requires a background check. As well, technology has made this job much safer. Many Uber drivers install dashboard cameras to protect themselves from clients. Again, the use of GPS ensures that the client will be happy.
While transportation is still considered risky, new technological installments make the job much safer. As technology progresses, the risk may be completely avoided by removing the need for human drivers. With safety as the backbone of technological progression, the future of transportation is an exciting one.
