5 Hiring Mistakes HR Directors Should Avoid

Directors of human resources are known to make several hiring mistakes. There are obvious mistakes that they notice right away, such as not performing employment verifications, and less obvious ones that they don't notice at all. The company's resources are wasted on the wrong employees as a result of bad hiring decisions. Avoid making 5 mistakes that dampen your ability to find good employees.

 

1. Thinking Short-Term

Discuss the long-term goals of your job applicants so that you get a better idea of their character and principles. Find out if they plan to stay with the company and help it grow. To hire for a serious position, do not hire an unmotivated person who is not sure about being devoted to your company. Know if they plan on moving up the ranks so that you assist them once they start working.

 

2. Insufficient Training

To avoid training their employees, many companies hire experienced workers only. If you plan to hire inexperienced ones, train them properly or deal with frustrated workers. If you invest in your workers' training and success, they will invest in the company.

 

3. Hiring Illegal Immigrants

Many illegal immigrants are just as qualified as legal workers, but hiring them could become detrimental to your company. The most obvious disadvantage is that you could run into legal troubles from the government. In additional, illegal workers are not guaranteed to sign on as long-term employees. To avoid this mistake, ask for documents before making a hiring decision.

 

4. Not Asking for Feedback

Hiring directors are part of a team that should make decisions together. Ask for feedback about your hiring practices from other members of the HR department. Request feedback about a candidate's qualifications or the effectiveness of your interviewing skills.

 

5. Not Following Through

Not following through with new hires is a lesser known mistake. In the first few weeks of their schedules, monitor them closely. Continue to the next level once you are convinced that they are suited for their jobs.

 

Every HR department knows the importance of making accurate decisions, which includes hiring the right employees. A single hiring mistake is expensive and harder to correct after a second one is made.
