5 Ways To Expand Your Recruiting Search

The economy is growing, companies are hiring and recruiters are swamped in resumes. Do you ever get tired of sourcing and want to get back into networking? Here are 5 ways to better your recruiting efforts by expanding your search and thinking outside the box:

1. Networking Events- Every town has them, and they are definitely becoming the "hip" thing to do. Who doesn't like going to a nice restaurant and meeting new people? Make an effort to attend at least 1 networking event a month and take notes when you get back about all the people you met. Also, be sure to follow up and keep in touch with the good contacts you now have. If you attend a netowrking event, but do not follow up with those you met, it probably won't have the impact you would of wanted. Getting your face out in the community and meeting people with a handshake will expand your pool of candidates and also expand your referral chain.

2. Referrals- My biggest point to make about referrals is that good people always know good people. And if you are a good friend, you will refer someone you know looking for a better opportunity. A lot of times, the way you ask for a referral can impact the type of referral you recieve. Sometimes I have people think their referral might beat them out for the job. And although that could be the case, do not let that be known. Build relationships with everyone you talk to so that they will trust you in sending them their friends.

3. LinkedIn- Updating, checking, adding, and networking on LinkedIn is key to expanding your search. I like to follow certain companies that have similar skill sets to the one client I am recruiting for. That way, you can see people who work there and slowly network with them. Of course, you can find out who your main competition is on LinkedIn based off of who is hiring. Overall, it's an excellent free resource any recruiter should actively use!

4. Open Houses- Holding an Open House at your company can only bring positive results. A huge part of starting at a new company is knowing the culture you are looking for. Spending 50+ hours a week in an environment that you do not enjoy, will not bring success. Also, putting a face to the name of your applicants really makes a recruiter feel at ease.

5. Career/Job Fairs- Attending all types of job fairs is another good resource to expand your recruiting search. Not only will you be able to talk about your company to a variety of people but you can also see what other companies are hiring. Knowing your competition is good too!

Recruiting can be difficult at times but expanding your network will make things a little bit easier. These 5 ways to branch outside the box can only lead to a more successful recruiting search and therefore help your company grow in the long run! Happy Recruiting!
