State of search during a Slump is anything but slow.....

I just had lunch the other day with a wonderfully talented VP of HR of a Fortune 1000 company whom I greatly admire. She asked me how I and my recruiter friends were faring in this economic slump.

Really, an economic slump or recession in my opinion is good for our business because it flushes out the wannabes and the job board surfers and those who just create alot of noise and useless calls to busy decisionmakers who need the help of those of us who are experienced no nonsense perfomers. Hey none of us are perfect, but for those of us who have worked long and hard bettering our craft, an economic slump does not affect us all that much. Our clients see an unmanageable deluge of unqualified resumes flooding their systems, and they still need (more than ever) a trained headhunter to just bring them the top dog or 2 or 3 for the job. Its a beautiful thing.

On a personal note, I haven't gotten to the gym for awhile since my head is totally wrapped around work right now(didn;t I say I was focused?) and the playing with the kids after hours and weekends. Matthew just turned 4 and can converse with anyone in Mensa. Richard is 18 months nd he is a little living breathing vessel of joy and love. Trains and Winnie the Pooh are BIG in our house. Thank goodness I have an elliptical in my office so I can jump on while I am on the phone - hunting!
