Manish asks: Are you a star recruiter?? What makes you feel that you are a star recruiter in the industry? Is the number of placements the only determining factor in your recruiting career history?

I feel I am a star recruiter for a few reasons but not for volume. (Although we have placed hundreds and hundreds of people over a 12 year period.)

1. I am only as good as my trusted network who have truly become friends and I thank them first and foremost!! (You know who you are :-)

2. I take the time to really understand my client's business before I accept a retained search assignment, and only if I believe I am the best recruiter for the job. After 12 years in the business, I know that nobody benefits if it is not a good fit between client and search firm. I probably forfeit revenue for having this core value, but at the end of the day I have to feel good about my work.

3. I am a great networker and headhunter. As I said, I have a tremendous database of trusted contacts that help me out with referrals of great people.

4. I have worked search internationally and have a trusted network of sources around the world.

5. I always work smart.

One area I could do better in is in candidate follow up. Without my administrative assistant, some things that are important are not done on as timely a basis as I would like.

90% of the recruiters I meet and speak to tell me they are in the top 10% of what they do. Mathematically, this cannot be . . . but that's what I hear :)
