economy and it's effects on recruitment

so the economy has taken a slight downturn......or haven't you noticed? seriously though, the economy does effect our business. just not necessarily in the way some people believe.

typically, hr and recruiting are areas that are slashed during economic downturns. i believe this is because we have not made a strong enough case to the decision makers about the value we add to the organization. In times like these, we need to be more vigilant in finding the right people for our business. the cost to the bottom line of having the wrong people on our team is more evident than having the right people some times. it is not just the effect they with their performance. rather, it can be how they affect the others they come in contact with throughout their time with you. whether it losing the great employees because they had a negative experience with this person or the loss of key clients due to their interactions.

the fact of the matter is, using the proper resources to find the right people can only enhance your value to the company, especially when the economy does turn around. yes, i know, it's taboo to think that way right now. the truth is, the economy is always going through periods of upturns and downturns. we as recruiters must always be on the prowl for the right people for our organziation, not just today but tomorrow as well.

ask yourself tough questions about your resources and are you getting the most out of them now. if not, be honest and move on. it's not just about job postings and branding. it is about getting a message out there of what they are going to do for you. get beyond just position advertisement and get into the game. if you don't, the talent you look for tomorrow will be working for your competitors and then you will lose.
