Attending my brother’s graduation from college some twenty years back has brought inspiration in what I do every day since. He was an industrial engineer and the speaker was talking about resolving problems (that’s what we do right!) and that an 80% solution today is better than a 100% solution that’s late, and being an IT recruiter many of my code delivering clients agree that putting in a system that handles most of the needs now is better than continuing to wait with no solution at all.
So what does this have to do with making a placement? Well on those tough to fill jobs it can help to get your clients over the hump of looking for the “ideal” candidate and get them looking at the qualified candidate. You know the one that can do their job and really wants the opportunity and challenge versus the “ideal” candidate who has most likely already performed in this role and quite frankly is looking for a bigger challenge… So do your client a favor and talk with them early on about the candidates that want their job and not the ones that will leave them at the alter.
