Share your knowledge about LinkedIn as a search tool. Here are two from me.

Dear Everyone,
I went to an online networking seminar hosted by LinkedIn today in San Jose, CA. It was pretty good and I learned a few neat tricks to increase the chances of your LinkedIn profile being found by employers or anyone looking for someone with your background.

So here are two things you can do right away...

1. Change your LinkedIn Public Profile URL link to one that has your name such as > http://www.linkedin.com/in/johnsmith (change it to your name. if your name is already taken, try your last name first). This will help people find your profile when they search for your name.

2. Change the title or name area where you can embed your company's website URL. It normally looks like this (these are LinkedIn's default title):

Websites
* My Company
* My Website

You can change the 'My Company' (same goes for 'My Website') to a more meaningful name such as 'Cisco Systems' or 'IT Specialist'. This will help search engines find your profile when searching for these key words.

And for those of you who are recruiters or HR pros working in high-tech, don't forget to join our High-Tech Recruiters group on LinkedIn!
